Simplicity 8299 - an Easy-to-Sew Wardrobe Staple

Kayleigh has made the skirt (View D) in on-trend midi-length in our lovely Chinoiserie dressmaking viscose crepe. At just over five foot, the midi length is longer on her but it’s a length she loves and wears frequently. She says it’s an easy pattern to adapt for different heights, and transitional seasonal dressing at its simplest; tights and boots to take you through spring, and sandals in the summer....

Simplicity 8299 is an easy-to-sew true wardrobe staple. We think it’s a great investment pattern as it offers wide legged trousers in two lengths, and a skirt with three length options. Use it wisely, and you’ll get plenty of use out of it for several years at least! Choose your fabric carefully, too. The Chinoiserie on Black allows this skirt to be dressed up or, or kept casual.

Experienced dressmakers will enjoy the 'sew and go' feel of the pattern, as you can go from fabric to outfit in under two hours. It’s also a great skill builder for new dressmakers; add a waistband casing and insert pockets using this simple no-fail method, you'll be drafting pockets for every outfit in no time!

To keep things neat, she stitched a narrow hem with a zig zag, before folding edges back when instructed by the pattern.
